Hornets sting BC

BOGUE CHITTO — Ashton Fox fired in 17 points, made 3 steals andhad 6 assists Tuesday night in directing the Loyd Star Hornets toan 81-46 win over the Bogue Chitto Bobcats in R.L. “Bob” CalhounGymnasium.

In the girls game, Shannon Chester’s game-high 28 points pacedthe Lady Hornets to a 68-44 win over the ‘Cats. Chester also made 4steals and had 4 assists.

Loyd Star meets host West Lincoln Thursday night in the openinground of the Lincoln County Round-Robin Tournament at Jack CaseGymnasium. Loyd Star faces West Lincoln at 7 p.m. in the girls gameand 8:30 in the boys matchup. The Bogue Chitto girls meetEnterprise at 4 and the boys at 5:30.

Loyd Star 81, Bogue Chitto 44

The Loyd Star boys (6-1) exploded in the first quarter to take a22-10 lead over Bogue Chitto. At halftime, the Hornets commanded a44-19 advantage over the Bobcats.

“We played well in the first quarter,” said Loyd Star boys coachGene (Moochie) Britt. “In the second quarter, I got to sub freely.We played 10 players at halftime.”

Senior center Ricky Barnes added support in the Loyd Star winwith a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds plus 3 steals and 2blocked shots. Ron Jones pulled down 6 rebounds followed by GlennThomas with 5 rebounds.

Leading Coach Andrew Smithie’s 0-3 Bobcats with 13 points wasJustin London. Fred Tillman scored 11 points.

Loyd Star 63, Bogue Chitto 44

The 6-1 Loyd Star girls pounced on Bogue Chitto for a 24-7 leadin the first quarter. At halftime, the visitors led 39-13.

“We had a good first quarter,” said Loyd Star girls coach BillyVaughn. “One of our goals was to have a good first quarter.”

Contributing to the Loyd Star win with 10 points and 5 reboundswas Emily Vaughn. Laura Britt netted 8 points and pulled down 5rebounds. Dakota Brooks led off the backboards with 8 rebounds,plus 4 steals and had 6 assists.

Bogue Chitto (2-3) got 13 points from Ashley Beckham. KelliHoward and Shelby Tobias finished with 6 points apiece.

Junior Varsity Action

The Bogue Chitto girls clipped Loyd Star39-36.

Aneshia Dillion netted 18 points for the ‘Cats. TesheonRogers finished with 8 points.

Loyd Star got 9 points from Erica Smith. Leah Brittfollowed with 7 points.

The Hornets rolled over the Bobcats 46-36. Leading LoydStar with 15 points was John Whittaker followed by Keldrick Smithwith 14.
