William Oliver Ashley

Services for William Oliver Ashley, of Brookhaven, will be heldat 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Bethel Temple Pentecostal Churchin Brookhaven with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Ashley, 72, died Dec. 17, 2007, at St. Dominic-JacksonMemorial Hospital in Jackson. He was born on June 6, 1935, toClarence Alvin Ashley and Bonnie Smith.

He was a retired millwright mechanic and United PaperworkersInternational and Union Member. He served in the United StatesArmy, where he served as Morse code operator, and also won aSharpshooter award. He was a member of Bethel Temple PentecostalChurch.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, AnnAnderson and Janie Dykes; and his brother, Ralph Ashley.

Survivors are his wife of 49 years, Kathleen Lambert; hisdaughters, Karole Thornhill and husband Garry, and Ronda Ashley,all of Brookhaven; his brothers, Alvin Ashley, Loyd Ashley, FloydAshley, Tommy Ashley and Jerry Ashley; his sisters, BonnieSpitchley, Nancy Patrick and Jenny Yates; and his grandchildren,Dana Thornhill Hux and husband Luke, and Megan Thornhill; and onevery special great-granddaughter, Emily Kathleen Hux.

Pallbearers are Howard Alexander, Mike Ellis, Johnny Haley,William Moore, Butch Paden and Jerry Rutland.

Honorary pallbearers are Alfred Laird and the Georgia PacificPort Hudson Work Crew.

Marie ‘Ann’ Davis

Services for Marie “Ann” Davis, of Brookhaven, will be held at11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at New Hope Church of Christ inBrookhaven with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven FuneralHome on Natchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Davis, 63, died Dec. 15, 2007, at Regency Hospital in Jackson.She was born in Winnsboro, La., on Feb. 23, 1944, to James Marburyand Mable (Sproles) Maxie.

She was a homemaker and an employee with Western Sizzlin for 17years. She was a member of New Hope Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, Albertand Charles Maxie; her sister, Sadie Davis; and her grandson,Willis Decanter Jr.

Survivors are her sons, Austin Wallace, of Brookhaven; herdaughter, Jeanne Marie Wallace Decanter and husband Willis, ofBrookhaven; her sisters, Nita Hill, of Woodbridge, Va., Peggy Hill,of Brookhaven, Helen Salminen, of Hibbing, Minn., and LouiseNettles, of Brookhaven; and her grandson, Hunter Decanter, ofBrookhaven.

Dorothy Smith

Services for Dorothy Smith, of Brookhaven, will be held at 11a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Mt. Zion 550 Church in Caseyville withburial in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from noon until 7 p.m. at the funeralhome, with family present from 6 until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Smith, 67, died Dec. 13, 2007, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. She was born on Sept. 3, 1940, to Sherman McCall and EmilyColeman McCall.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Zion 550Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, JamesMonroe Smith Sr.; her son, Gary Smith; her brothers, Joseph McCall,John C. McCall and Sherman McCall; and her sister, BessieStewart.

Survivors are her sons, James Monroe Smith Jr., of Florida, theRev. Robert Winston, of Michigan, and Edgar B. Smith, ofBrookhaven; her daughters, Shirley Kyles and Emily Michelle Chess,both of Oklahoma, Tracy Nelson, of Florida, and Debra Ann Jordan,of Texas; her brothers, the. Rev. R.C. McCall and Luther McCall,both of Brookhaven, and her sisters, Alean Eley, Emma D. Allen andAlice Henderson, all of Brookhaven, and Mary Francis Bell, ofMichigan; and a host of grandchildren.
