“As far as what caused it, we’ve got no idea,” Capt. DonaldSterling said. “But we think it spread throughout the back of thehouse and made its way to the attic.”

Firefighters knocked down the fire and returned to the stationalmost two hours later. The fire re-ignited during the night, andthe fire department was called out again at 5:17 a.m. Thursday.

Sterling said re-ignition sometimes occurs in home fires.

“As far as something like that you can’t determine how long itwill take,” he said. “You can’t pinpoint a time frame in which itcould occur.

The wind was blowing and that could have ignited a few embers, and that’s probably what started it back up.”

Fire investigators will be looking over the scene Thursday todetermine the cause of the house fire, which was a total loss.
