Co-Lin Wolfpack outscores Hinds

WESSON — Exploding for 16 hits, the Co-Lin Wolves ambushed theHinds Community College Eagles 13-9 Monday on Sullivan Field. TheWolves were powered by Taebyus Smith’s double and 2 singles.

“We hit the ball well and we played good defense,” said Co-Lincoach Keith Case. “I thought we played a pretty good ballgameexcept when we gave up seven runs on six hits in the fifth.”

“Our guys didn’t let down when Hinds went ahead,” Case added.”They kept battling.”

Hinds got home runs from Shane Bennett and Greg Howard.

Co-Lin freshman Trent Hartzog pitched well for 4 innings. Hegave up 7 hits, 5 runs and walked 1 batter, striking out 6.

Patrick Shumaker (1-0) relieved Hartzog in the fifth and got thewin. In 2 innings,he up 3 hits and 4 runs, walking 2.

“Hinds has a good team,” said Case. “I know we will have ourhands full Wednesday when we play a doubleheader up there.Hopefully, we will pitch well.”

Co-Lin (2-1) resumes play Wednesday at Hinds in Raymond. Thefirst games starts at 2 p.m.

At the plate, leftfielder Paul Davis and rightfielder TaebyusSmith each had 3 RBI for Co-Lin. Cameron Logan and Montez Chapmandoubled.

Collecting singles for Co-Lin were Mitch Pappas, Timmy Foster,Jordan Toney and Jarred Rogers.
