Willie Mae Diggs Brown

Services for Willie Mae Diggs Brown, of Brookhaven, will be heldat 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at St. James Missionary BaptistChurch in Brookhaven with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery. R.E.Tyler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from noon until 5 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Brown, 84, died Feb. 23, 2008, at her residence. She wasborn in Lincoln County on Nov. 3, 1923, to Johnnie Diggs Sr. andWillie Ann Kennedy Diggs.

She was a graduate of Alexander High School. She was a retirednurses aide and an active member of St. James M.B. Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, ErnestBrown; and her brother, Johnnie Diggs Jr.

She is survived by her brother, James Diggs, of Brookhaven.

Josephine Pickering-Turnage

Services for Josephine Pickering-Turnage, 89, of Brookhaven,will be held on Feb. 27, 2008, at Riverwood Family Funeral Serviceat 11 a.m. with interment following at Lucien Baptist ChurchCemetery.

Visitation will precede on Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 5 until 9 p.m.and on Wednesday from 9 until 11 a.m.

Josephine was born on Nov. 27, 1918, in Franklin County to RhodaSmith-Pickering and Judd Pickering. She attended Lucien BaptistChurch and graduated as salutatorian of Lucien High School in 1937.She married Albert Turnage in 1940. She worked at Silver CrossNursing home for more than 20 years before retiring in 1984 andlater was a longtime resident at Silver Cross. She was a member ofEasthaven Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Turnage;parents, Rhoda Smith-Pickering and Judd Pickering; brothers, RoyPickering and Barney Pickering; and sisters, Audrey Sykes and LouisSmith.

She is survived by her son, Steve Turnage and wife Connie, ofBrookhaven; daughters, Rhoda Wiggins and husband Dean, ofShreveport, La., and Sue Guice, of Monroe, La.; brothers, JamesPickering and wife Jewell, of Brookhaven, Eugene Pickering and wifeRebecca, of Byram, and J.E. Pickering and wife JoAnn, ofBrookhaven; sisters, Mary Ruth Smith and husband Al, of Natchez,and Martha Sykes, of Allen, Texas.; six grandchildren, BrianTurnage and wife Tricia, and Stacy Ravenscraft of Brookhaven, ToddGuice and wife Delaine, and John Keith Guice and wife Stacey, ofMonroe, Scott Wiggins, of Shreveport, La., and Michael Wiggins andwife Judy, of Kilgore, Texas.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Brian Turnage, Todd Guice, John Keith Guice,Scott Wiggins, Michael Wiggins and Dean Wiggins.
