Franklin Co. wins twinbill from South Pike

MAGNOLIA – Paced by a 6-for-6 performance from senior firstbaseman Ben McDowell, the Franklin County Bulldogs swept South Pikein a Region 7-3A baseball doubleheader 8-1 and 16-3.
The Bulldogs resume play Tuesday at Wilkinson County beginningat 5:00.

Franklin County (10-1) used the effective pitching of Collins, a5-11 sophomore to keep South Pike at bay. Collins struck out 10,walked three, and allowed no hits through six innings of work.Senior Robert Wilson closed the game out in the seventh with threestrikeouts.
At the plate, junior outfielder Jordan Hunt led the Bulldogswith a solo home run and a single for two RBI. McDowell had twohits and for an RBI. Collins collected a double and a stolenbase.

In game two, the Bulldogs exploded as McDowell highlighted theroute with a 4-for-4 performance that included a three run homerand an RBI double, he finished the game with 5 RBI. Collins addedtwo hits and two stolen bases, while Blaine Abernathy, HunterHatcher, and Ryne Tutor collected a double and a single apiece.
FCHS scored five runs in the third inning. South Pike could onlymuster three runs the entire game.
On the mound, Abernathy collected the win, sophomore Colton Lairdnotched the save.
The Bulldogs are coached by Jeremy Loy, and assisted by BrentCalcote and Brad Mullins.
