Lady Hornets blank BHS

A 4-run fourth inning by the Loyd Star Lady Hornets propelledthem to a 4-0 shutout of the Brookhaven Lady Panthers Saturdaynight at the Lady Panther Softball Complex.

Lady Hornet pitcher Brooke Delaughter authored the win, fanning11 Brookhaven batters and allowing a pair of walks.

Loyd Star shut out Brookhaven 7-0 in the JV game.

Loyd Star hosts Enterprise for a Division 6-2A Monday encounter.The JV game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at6.

Brookhaven travels to Florence Monday for Division 6-4Aaction.

“Brooke pitched a good time tonight,” said Loyd Star head coachJan Delaughter. “Our defense played well. We did not commit anerror.”

The Lady Hornets (6-8) got all the runs they needed in thefourth.

With 1 out, Delaughter singled and moved to second on a LadyPanther miscue. Centerfield Emily Smith singled. Third basemanBrittany Beeson reached on an error that allowed Delaughter tocross home plate. Two batters later, first baseman Annie Smith’sdouble scored Emily Smith and Beeson. Annie Smith later scored on aRBI single by Calleye Douglas.

Lending support for the Lady Hornets was Delaughter with 2singles. Annie Smith singled and doubled.

“You can’t win, when you do not hit the ball,” said Lady Pantherhead coach Chad Walker following the game.

Brookhaven (10-4) managed a pair of singles from Katie Stewartand Sabrina Delaughter.

In the JV game, Brittany Walker got the win forLoyd Star. Brooke Hosick suffered the loss for Brookhaven.
