Joe ‘Papa’ Banks Jr.
Services for Joe “Papa” Banks Jr., of Brookhaven, will be heldat 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at St. Paul Missionary BaptistChurch in Brookhaven with burial in Rose Hill Missionary BaptistChurch Cemetery in Brookhaven. Williams Mortuary is in charge ofarrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home,with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m.
Mr. Banks, 54, died March 16, 2008, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born in Lincoln County on March 6, 1954, to JoeBanks Sr. and Clementine Banks.
He was a logger for over 30 years. He was employed with BradSmith Logging. He was a member of Watkins Memorial Chapel.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, Alice MaeBanks and Carolyn Banks Brown.
Survivors are his wife, Pauline Bolds Banks, of Brookhaven; hissons, Micheal Bryant, Kerrick Bryant, Don Bolds and Samuel Johnson,all of Brookhaven; his brothers, Johnny Banks and wife Dora, RalphBanks and wife Lorraine, Charles Banks and wife Shirley, DannyBanks and wife Joyce, Percy Banks, Hollis Banks and wifeEvangeline, all of Brookhaven; his sisters, Willie Ruth Banks,Bertha Gayten, Mae Ethel Wilcher and husband Willie D., all ofBrookhaven, and Amy Nell Brothern and husband Jessie, of Wesson;his special mother-in-law, Katherine Bolds, of Brookhaven; and manynieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Georgia Aileen Nix Burton
Services for Georgia Aileen Nix Burton will be held at 11 a.m.on Saturday, March 22, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapelwith burial at 2 p.m. in Lakewood Memorial Parks at 6000 ClintonBoulevard in Jackson.
Visitation is Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the serviceat the funeral home.
She was born in Oma on Jan. 16, 1919, to Walter Elliot Nix andRosa Love Henington Nix and died on Thursday, March 20, 2008, atthe age of 89.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, SelmerPrice Burton of “Burton’s” Restaurant in Jackson; her two brothers,Frank and Lowery Nix; and two sisters, Margaret Nix Day and EvelynNix Tullos, and her nephew, David Tullos.
She is survived by her son, John Price Burton and wife Kay KroneBurton, of Brookhaven; her three granddaughters, Shelly BurtonCloud and husband Jonathan, of Franklin, Tenn., Dr. Amanda RoseBurton, of Baltimore, Md., and Emily Burton Waterloo and husbandTrey, of Jackson; as well as four great-grandchildren, HannahClaire Cloud, 7; Bennett Price Cloud, 3; MaryRhea Nix Waterloo, 6;and Evelyn Mae Waterloo, 1. She is also survived by four nephews,Frank Nix, of Atlanta, Ga., Jon Tullos, of Russellville, Ark., BenTullos, of Madison, Tommy Nix, of Memphis, Tenn.; and one niece,Jane Agner of Destin, Fla., and many great nieces and nephews.
Aileen attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven, and retiredfrom Electric Power Associations of Mississippi in 1984 after 30years of service. She was a member of Alta Woods United MethodistChurch in Jackson for over 50 years and for the past four years wasan active member of First United Methodist Church in Brookhaven.She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and anavid reader. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren and was always faithful to her family and herLord. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Charles Earl Furr
Services for Charles Earl Furr, of Brookhaven, will be held at11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Union Hall Baptist Church inBrookhaven with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven FuneralHome is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Furr, 65, died March 20, 2008, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born in Lincoln County on March 30, 1942, toPrentiss Rufus Furr and Edna Chutz Furr.
He was an auto parts salesman. He was a member of Union HallBaptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and the churchorganist for 40 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Jean Furr, of Brookhaven; his son,Charles Brian Furr, of Brookhaven; his daughter, Michelle Smith andhusband, Philip Jr., of Brookhaven; his grandson, Cason Lee Smith,of Brookhaven; his sisters, Mildred Blackwell and Ruth Snyder andhusband Chuck, all of Brookhaven; his niece, Donnis Jordan, ofBrookhaven; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Gloria Jean King
Services for Gloria Jean King, of Fayette, will be held at 2p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Hollywood Baptist Church in Fayettewith burial in Poplar Hill A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Fayette.Marshall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The memorial presentation will be shown in place of viewing.
Mrs. King, 60, died March 17, 2008, at Natchez Regional MedicalCenter. She was born in Jefferson County on Feb. 16, 1948, to Ellisand Ellen Scott.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister, MattieScott Holman; and her brothers, Thomas and Ellis Scott Jr.
Survivors are her loving daughter, Stephanie M. King; her sons,Captain Stetson King and Samuel King III; her adopted daughters,DanViona King and Keena Scott Njoroge; her sister, Julia Scott; herbrother, Herman Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, otherrelatives and friends.
