Franklin Co. captures key playoff berth

TYLERTOWN – The Franklin County Diamond Dawgs clinched a Class3A playoff berth with a 12-2 victory over Tylertown in Region 7-3Aaction. The win secured the Bulldogs at least the runner’s up spotin the division.

The Class 3A playoffs are in two weeks.

Franklin County plays host to North Pike Tuesday night beginningat 7 in “The Swamp,” for the district lead. Both North Pike andFCHS stand 8-0 in division play.

FC senior pitcher Blaine Abernathy led the Bulldogs on the moundand at the plate with three singles. He struck out six to improveto 5-0 on the season.

Senior second baseman Ryne Tutor had a single and double, juniorcenterfielder Jordan Hunt had a single and double plus stole fourbases. Freshmen Preston Shelton had two singles. SophomoreDeHendret Collins collected three stolen bases.

The Bulldogs (13-3, 8-0) are off to there best start since 2002.They are coached by second-year head coach Jeremy Loy and assistedby Brad Mullins and Brent Calcote.
