Wildcats win pair over Wolves

POPLARVILLE – The Co-Lin Wolves battled the Pearl River Wildcatsin an eight-inning South Division contest Saturday before fallingto the host 8-7 in the second game of a baseball doubleheader.

In the first game, Pearl River clipped Co-Lin 6-2.

The Wolves,coached by Keith Case, fell to 18-17 overall and are3-3 in the division. The Wildcats are 6-2 in the division and 24-12overall.

Co-Lin returns to Sullivan Field Wednesday to face divisionrival Gulf Coast for two games. The first game begins at 4 p.m.

“We played a good ball game,” said Case. “We didn’t make manymisques. They (Wildcats) did take advantage of them. Hartzog andHinton pitched well. Both of those guys competed well. I am proudof how the whole team played. It’s hard to get a win down there.I’m proud of their effort and how we competed.

Pearl River 6, Co-Lin 2

Kyle Lyndsey (6-10) went the distance for the win, fanning 10batters, allowing no walks, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits..

Absorbing the loss was Trent Hartzog (3-3) with 6 runs allowedon 6 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts and 3 hit batters.

At the plate, Co-Lin was led by Josh Coone with a 2-run homerun. Jarred Rogers doubled. Singling were Montez Chatman, StevenGauthe’ and Timmy Foster.

Ethan Burch powered Pearl River with a home run and 2 singles.Seth Edwards singled twice. Doubling was Matt Discon.

Pearl River 8, Co-Lin 7

Brandt Hinton (4-3) absorbed the loss, allowing 8 runs on 12hits, walked 2 and struck out 4.

Posting the win was Tyler Watkins (5-4) in relief of starterCorey Jordan and first reliever Will Man in the fourth.

For the Wolves, Foster led with a homer. Coone doubled andsingled. Ripping a pair of singles was Jordan Toney. Paul Davissingled.

Leading the Wildcats with a homer, a double and 2 singles wasSeth Edwards. Diez homered and singled. Matt Discon singled twice.Hitting safely were Zach Tigsdale, Ryan Norton, Tristan Rogers andMick Smith.
