Floye Jones McClelland

Services for Floye Jones McClelland, of Brookhaven, will be heldat 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, at Riverwood Family Funeral ServiceChapel with burial in Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. McClelland, 78, died April 30, 2008, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center. She was born in Copiah County on July 5, 1929, toGordon “Griff” Jones and Marie “Mama” Jones.

She worked with Dr. Dorsey, and Hobbs, Hobbs and Peeples, andJacobsen Lawn Mower Plant for many years. She was a member ofEasthaven Baptist Church in Brookhaven and a strong leader in theVeterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary. She was appointed asLincoln County’s District Three Election Commissioner in 2001 toreplace her husband, Bernard, who died in office. She won the 2003election and continued serving until her resignation in July2007.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Gordon “Griff” Jonesand Marie “Mama” Jones, owners of Jones Restaurant; her husbands,John Hickman Jr. and Bernard McClelland; her sisters, Louise Woodand Helen McDonald; and her son, John “Buster” Hickman.

Survivors are her daughter, Ann Hickman Van Norman and husband,Claude; her grandchildren, Chauncey Van Norman, Beth Johnson,Sherry Boyte Keeton, Whitney Lynn Herring and John Dylan Hickman;her six great-grandchildren and her stepdaughter, Lucye McClellandMoore.

The family requests memorials to be sent to the American CancerSociety.

Sylvester Wilson Sr.

Services for Sylvester Wilson Sr., of Natchez, will be held at11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Second Union Baptist Church inNatchez with burial in the church cemetery. Marshall Funeral Homeis in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until thetime of the service.

Mr. Wilson, 61, died April 26, 2008, at Hospice Ministries inRidgeland. He was born in Natchez on Feb. 15, 1947, to Rooseveltand Maude B. Wilson.

He was a member of the L.F. & C. Society and Good SamaritanSociety.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and his brothers,George Belton Sr. and Richard Wilson.

Survivors are his wife, Betty J. Pollard Wilson; his daughter,Catherine Latham, of Natchez; his sons, Sylvester Wilson Jr., andTroy Wilson, both of Natchez; his sister, Rosie B. Wilson, ofNatchez; his brothers, Arthur Wilson, of Sibley, and Willie Wilson,of Natchez; his adopted sister, Glenda Mazique, of Natchez; hisadopted brothers, Landy Wilson and Jerry Wilson, of Natchez; hisfive grandchildren; three aunts; two uncles-in-law; and a host ofnieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
