Carrie Jackson Cobb

Services for Carrie Jackson Cobb, of Meadville, are 1 p.m. onSunday, June 22, at Oak Grove Community Church in Franklin Countywith burial in the church cemetery. Marshall Funeral Home is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from 11 a.m. until the time of the serviceat the church.

Mrs. Cobb, 89, died June 17, 2008, at Promise SpecialtyHospital. She was born in Liberty on March 12, 1919, to Enoch andMariah Causey Jackson.

She was a member of the NAACP in Franklin County, CIG, and theFranklin County Singing Union.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, George W.Cobb; her daughters, Edna Shaw and Ina Marie Washington; twosisters; and one grandson.

Survivors are her sister, Harriett Alexander and husband Louis;her sons-in-law, J. L. Shaw and Charles H. Washington; 13grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 21great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, otherrelatives and friends.

Gordon Benton Ward

Services for Gordon Benton Ward, of Monticello, were 11 a.m. onSaturday, June 21, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in ArmBaptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Ward, 61, died June 18, 2008, in Lawrence County. He wasborn in Brookhaven on March 28, 1947, to Thomas Ward and LoisWoodward Ward.

He was retired from the oil field and a disabled veteran whoserved as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam. He was a member of Arm BaptistChurch, a Master Mason and a member of ABATE and the VFW.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, HazelWard and Shirley Ward.

Survivors are his son, Gordon Benton “Ben” Ward Jr., ofMonticello; his daughter-in-law, Margaret Elise Ward, ofMonticello; his brothers, John Thomas Ward and Tarvey Ward, both ofMonticello; his sisters, Myrna Dyness, of Calhoun City, and ZonaTirello, of Monticello; and his grandchildren, Brittany and WalterWard, of Monticello.

Virgie Smith Winborne

Services for Virgie Smith Winborne, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.on Monday, June 23, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on NatchezDrive with burial in New Sight Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Winborne, 85, died June 21, 2008, at Country Brook LivingCenter. She was born in Lincoln County on July 8, 1922, to IvyEugene Smith and Eunice Walker Smith.

She was a housewife. She was a member of New Sight BaptistChurch.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, WilliamTroy Winborne; her brother, Howell Smith; and her sister, InisIvy.

Survivors are her son, Billy Ray Winborne and wife Faye, ofBrookhaven; her daughters, Betty Boone, of Vicksburg, and Sue Smithand husband Glynn C., of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Vickie andMike Tart, of Bartlett, Tenn., Gayle and John Dolan, of Vicksburg,Judy and Cliff Whitman, of Collierville, Tenn., Gay Dement, ofVicksburg, Kay and Robert McDaniel, of Vicksburg, Jimmie Gayle andMichael Cain, of Brookhaven, Keith and Stephanie Winborne, ofWesson, Glynna and Tim Broxson, of Brookhaven, Teresa and JeffBritt, of Brookhaven, Cecil and Lisa Smith, of Orleans, Ind., andBarbie and Slade Powell, of Jayess; her great-grandchildren,Michelle and Michael Tart, Derek Dolan, Joshua and Michael RyanWhitam, Austin and Dylan Dement, Casey Montana and Justin McDaniel,Justin Cain, Lydia and Shane Fairchild, Mandy and Emily Winborne,Shawn and Shelley Broxson, Brandon, Dustin and Nathan Britt,Aubrey, Kaylee and Sophie Smith, and Alden, Emma, Troy and ElysePowell; and one great-great-granddaughter, Avery Claire Norton.
