Wesson shaves Americans

Delayed by a day of heavy rains, the Lincoln County Americansgot their 2008 Dixie Youth Baseball Major League 11-year old NorthSubdistrict 6 Tournament game under way in a Saturday morningspecial. The Americans fell to the Wesson All-Stars 4-3 on KeystoneField. Natchez defeated Wesson 7-0 Friday in the opening game aftera one-day delay.
With the loss, Lincoln County will play Natchez Monday night at6:30 in an elimination game. Wesson awaits the Natchez/Americanswinner Tuesday at 6:30.
In the bottom in the first, Wesson grabbed an early 2-0 lead.Shortstop C.J. Viramontez walked. Pitcher Mack Smith smashed a2-run homer.
Wesson, coached by Jerry Hood, Steve Porter and Ken McQuage,extended their advantage to 3-0 in the second. Colby Porter walked,stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and later scored on awild pitch.
Lincoln County cut the deficit to a single run, 3-2 in thethird. Duncan Bane and Chaz Acy each drew a walk. John Paul Jacksonsingled to load the bases. Tanner Allen walked to score Bane.Peyton Flowers grounded into a fielder’s choice that scoredAcy.
The Americans realized a 3-all deadlock in the fourth. With 1out, Conner Dorman singled and moved to second on a wild pitch.Alex Neal walked. With 2 outs, Bane walked to load the bases. Acyreached on a Natchez throwing error that allowed Dorman to scorehis team’s third run.
Wesson got the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.Viramontez singled. Two batters later, Peyton Hood singled andmoved to second on a wild pitch. Conner Lowery singled to drive inViramontez.
Collecting hits for Wesson were Jace Alexander, Viramontez,Hood, Lowery (2) and Elizender Alvarez.
For the Americans, hitting safely were Caleb Yarborough, Dormanand Jackson. Flowers doubled.

Quin Logan pitched the victory over Wesson. C.J. Veramontez tookthe loss.
At the plate, Lester Wells doubled and singled for Natchez whichscored 4 runs in the second and led 5-0. Logan doubled. Alsohitting safely were Alex Weadock, Trey Fleming, Cameron Farmer andBen Hewitt.
Veramontez had the only hit for Wesson which committed 3errors.
