Man’s shooting remains under investigation

A Brookhaven man is in King’s Daughters Medical Center’sintensive care unit in stable condition after being shot in theupper chest Sunday morning, hospital officials said.

Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said Alton Nelson, 40, wasshot in the upper left chest area around 9 a.m. Sunday. Hendersonsaid Nelson claims to have no recollection of where he was when hewas shot or of the identity of his assailant.

“We don’t really have enough to go on yet,” Henderson said. “Thisinvestigation is ongoing, of course, and we will be talking to thevictim again to see if he remembers anything else.”

Henderson said while Nelson says he does not remember anythingother than that he was on “a street” when he was shot, he said theambulance was called to Nelson’s mother’s home at 123 WestEnterprise St. Henderson said police will be able to release moreinformation as the investigation unfolds.

Nelson was taken from the scene by ambulance to KDMC.
