Teens charged in fight at fair

Four juveniles and one adult were arrested Saturday night aftera fight that erupted during the Exchange Club Fair.
Brookhaven Police Department Assistant Chief Nolan Jones saidofficers on the scene Saturday told him a large group of malejuveniles started an altercation around 9:30 p.m. Brookhaven Policeand Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department reserve deputies on duty atthe fair worked to break up the fight, but witnesses on the scenesaid other units had to be called to the scene as well.
“There was a group that was gathered up, and there were fourjuveniles arrested and one adult,” he said.
The juveniles, all in their mid-teens, were charged withdisturbing the peace by fighting, Jones said.
Billy Thomas, 39, of 510 East Congress St., was charged withdisorderly conduct when he argued with arresting officers. He isthe father of one of the juveniles who was allegedly fighting.
Jones said Thomas did not resist arrest and went peaceably withofficers.
Jones said there were others involved in the altercation, butpolice apprehended as many as they could right on the scene.
“I don’t know how many were actually fighting,” he said. “Therewere some more, but they grabbed the ones they could get.”
