Eatery robbed Saturday morning

Brookhaven Police conducted a search Saturday morning in theHalbert Heights Road and Magee Drive area for a suspect in arobbery at Taco Bell on Brookway Boulevard, officials said.

Police Chief Pap Henderson said a Taco Bell manager alertedpolice around 9:40 a.m. that a black male possibly just under 6feet tall, wearing a long black T-shirt, stonewashed jeans, blackgloves and a mask, had grabbed her and demanded money. She toldpolice that she was carrying the deposit from the night before toher car in order to take it to the bank.

“She walked out the side door and was headed to her car to go tothe bank, when a black male grabbed her from behind, and took themoney bag and ran south back behind Gene’s Tires,” Hendersonsaid.

Bystanders said police set up a perimeter in the wooded areabetween Brookway Boulevard and Lakeview Arms Apartments, where theyallegedly found footprints leading to a low place in the chain linkfence that runs through the area.

A K-9 unit was brought in to help with tracking the thief, but asof Saturday afternoon, he had still not been apprehended.

“There were no developments with the dog,” he said. “Unfortunately,it was unable to pick up a scent.”
