Margaret Martin Whittington
Services for Margaret Martin Whittington, of Brookhaven, are 3p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on NorthJackson Street with burial in Rosehill Cemetery in Brookhaven.
Visitation is Saturday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mrs. Whittington, 93, died Aug. 13, 2008, at Lakeland Nursingand Rehabilitation Center in Jackson. She was born in Jackson onApril 3, 1915.
Mrs. Whittington was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.B. MartinSr., who owned and operated The Jackson Monument Co. in Jackson.While attending Whitworth College in Brookhaven she met and marriedher future husband, Lucien Shelby Whittington Sr., who had beenattending Louisiana State University. They enjoyed 47 blissfulyears together.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Whittington was formerly very activein P.T.A., while her children were in school. She was a member ofthe Thursday Bridge Club and she loved to cook and always had anextra place at the table for unexpected company.
Mrs. Whittington was a member of First United Methodist Churchin Brookhaven for 60-plus years and a member of the fellowshipSunday school class.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, LucienShelby Whittington Sr.; a brother, A.B. Martin Jr. and wife, LulaTaylor Martin, both of Florence; a sister, Mary Martin Gordon andhusband, Robert Tiffany Gordon Sr., both of Florence; and ason-in-law, Melvin Raymond, of Biloxi.
Survivors are a son, Lucien Shelby Whittington Jr., ofSammamish, Wash.; her two daughters, Joy Lee Raymond, of Biloxi,and Lucie Crosby and husband, Bing, of Ridgeland; her twograndchildren, Erin Shelby Whittington and George ShelbyCrosby.
Pallbearers will be George Shelby Crosby, Bob Martin, RobertGordon, Gary Rake, Gene Meeks and Duane Allred.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church inBrookhaven or your favorite charity.
Zoe Young Woodruff
Services for Zoe Young Woodruff, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m.Saturday, Aug. 16, at Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel in YazooCity with burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City. The Rev. AllenKing will officiate.
Visitation is Saturday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mrs. Woodruff, 88, died Aug. 13, 2008, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center in Brookhaven. She was born in Yazoo City on Nov. 9,1919, to Lonnie Young and Mary Penick.
Preceding her in death are her parents and her husband, ClydeWoodruff.
Survivors are her sons, Clyde Woodruff and wife, Patricia, ofEllisville, Kenneth Woodruff and wife, Marie, of Goose Creek, S.C.;a daughter, Sarah W. Lloyd and husband, Bill, of Brookhaven; asister, Juanita Stricklin; her five grandchildren, Dabbs Woodruff,Dr. Patrice Dukes, Amanda Woodruff, Angela Woodruff and KimberlyReece; and her eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Dabbs Woodruff, Harvey Lofton, Jerry Irwin,Garren Dukes, Charlie Campbell and George Sigrest.
