Red Devils burn Bobcats

BOGUE CHITTO – The undefeated Bogue Chitto Bobcats came out flatin the first quarter and the Stringer Red Devils made them pay.Building a 21-0 first-quarter lead, Stringer held off Bogue Chittoon its way to a 42-12 Region 4-1A win Friday night on Troy SmithField.

Bogue Chitto ( 5-1, 5-1) , absorbing its first loss, visitsPuckett and Stringer (3-2, 3-2) entertains Natchez Cathedral Fridaynight in region action.

“Stringer came out and whipped us in all areas of the game,”said Bogue Chitto head coach Garreth Sarin.”It has been a long timesince we took a beating like that on our home field. Hopefully,this will be a wake-up call for my guys and they will learn fromthis. Now we must regroup and get ready to practice harder nextweek to prepare for next Friday.”

In the first quarter, Andrew Pierce connected to Marcus Boltonfor a 21-yard touchdown and Josh Chandler for a 36-yard TD beforeErin Gavin scored an 8-yard touchdown to give Stringer a 21-0 lead.Pierce also kicked 4 of 5 extra points and ran in a 2-pointconversion.

“This was the first complete game we have played as a team,”said Stringer coach Marlon Brannan. “I am proud of our effort. Wemanaged to take advantage of Bogue Chitto when they seemed to beflat from the start. That seems to be unusual for Bogue Chittobecause they are very well coached. But I am glad to get the winbecause this keeps us in the hunt for the playoffs.”

At the 10:26 mark in the second quarter, Enterprise quarterbackSeth Avants connected to Brian Robinson for an 8-yard TD. The tryfor 2 points failed as Bogue Chitto cut the deficit to 21-6.

The Red Devils scored at the 9:21 mark on a 47-yard burst byPierce and push their lead to 28-6.

Before the end of the second quarter, Avants scored a 2-yard TDfor the Bobcats. The 2-point pass-play failed and Stringer ledBogue Chitto 28-12 at the half.

In the third quarter, Gavin tacked on another pair of TDs onruns of 6 and 7-yards to push the Red Devils lead to 42-12.

Leading the Bobcat running game was Avants with 12 rushes for 62yards. Byron Kersee rushed 7 times for 39 yards. Carrying 5 timesfor 40 yards was Robinson.

Avants completed 7 of 21 passes for 79 yards and was interceptedtwice. Robinson led the receivers with 5 receptions for 63yards.

The Red Devils were directed by Gavin with 14 carries for 146yards. Pierce finished with 88 yards on 5 carries.

In the air, Pierce completed 5 of 8 passes for 106 yards. Boltonled the receivers with 2 catches for 48 syards. Making 2 catchesfor 46 yards was Chandler.

Defensively, the Bobcats were led by Colton McClendon with 10tackles. Fred Tillman collected 8 tackles. Making 7 stops each wereKevin Brothern and Robinson. Rico Wells finished with 6 stops.
