Rain delays softball playoffs

Rain caused numerous postponements Tuesday in the opening roundof the MHSAA slowpitch softball state playoffs. Brookhaven, BogueChitto, West Lincoln and Enterprise were among the area schoolsrained out. Those best-of-three series have been rescheduled forThursday.

Brookhaven, coached by Lisa Covington, will play at d’IbervilleThursday in the Class 4A state playoffs. Bogue Chitto, coached byScott Leggett, will play at East Webster in 1A action. WestLincoln, coached by Andrew Redd, will host Nanih Waiya, starting at4 p.m.

Enterprise, coached by Steve Sasser, is at Union Thursday inClass 2A action.

Lawrence County, the Division 6-4A champion, hosted East CentralTuesday at Monticello and started early, avoiding the rain. TheLady Cougars, coached by Courtney Shivers, swept East Central.

Franklin County, the Division 7-3A champion, split withPoplarville before the rain arrived. Coach Dana Smith’s LadyBulldogs will host Poplarville today at 4 p.m. in Game 3.

The second round of the state playoffs is scheduled forSaturday. It also will be a best-of-three series.
