Suspect held after a.m. attempted robbery

Brookhaven police officials said they have a suspect in custodyafter he led officers on a pursuit following an attempted armedrobbery of a local business Tuesday morning.
Police Chief Pap Henderson said the suspect was apprehended onHighway 550 by Brookhaven police and Lincoln County Sheriff’sdeputies after attempting to rob a local business with aweapon.
“There was an attempted armed robbery on Main Street,” saidHenderson. “We have the suspect in custody now.”
The incident happened around 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials said the suspect fled the scene on a motorcycle andled police on a chase into the county before crashing on Highway550. Once he was off the motorcycle, he attempted to flee on footand was apprehended by officers and taken into custody.
“We’ll be able to release more as we get more,” Henderson saidTuesday morning. “We just brought him in. We haven’t even bookedhim yet.”
Henderson said witnesses and the suspect will be interviewedtoday and in coming days and that more details will be available asthe investigation continues.
