Wesson tops Copiah in consolation

JACKSON – The Wesson boys and girls basketball teams producedwins Saturday afternoon in the consolation games against the CopiahAcademy Colonels in the Hillcrest Christian Tournament.

The Wesson boys dusted Copiah 58-44 and the Lady Cobras put awaythe Lady Colonels 48-29.

Wesson travels to Loyd Star Tuesday for four games. The juniorvarsity girls begin play at 4 p.m. followed by the JV boys at 5,the varsity girls at 6 and the varsity boys at 7:30.

Wesson 58, Copiah 44

Powering the Cobras (7-2) to the win with a double-double of 17points and 13 rebounds was junior post player Tyler Lumley. JoshHood pumped in 14 points. Kyle Cross netted 8 points and made 5steals.

“The boys played well,” said Wesson boys coach Ron Kessler. “Westarted slow in the first quarter but got stronger in the second.We went to the bench in the third quarter to let our younger guysplay.”

Copiah was led by Dennis Harper with 11 points. Scoring 10 pointswas Caleb Stewart.

Wesson 48, Copiah 29

The Wesson girls (6-3), coached by Hugh Webb, were directed byjunior post Ann Shelby Davis with 12 points. Shauntay Walker firedin 8 points and pulled down 5 rebounds.

Copiah was led by Courtney Beach with 8 points.
