Hornets sack Enterprise
The host Loyd Star Hornets swept a pair of varsity Division 6-2Agames from the Enterprise Yellow Jackets Tuesday night. Theunbeaten Loyd Star boys (13-0, 3-0) placed 4 players in doublefigures on their way to a 95-68 win over Enterprise.
The Lady Hornets (11-2, 2-1) roared to a 55-38 victory over theLady Jackets.
Friday night, Loyd Star hosts powerhouse Hinds AHS for a bigdivision test for both teams. The junior varsity girls game beginsat 5 p.m. followed by the varsity.
Loyd Star 95, Enterprise 68
“We rebounded well,” said Loyd Star boys coach Gene (Moochie)Britt. “Our (defensive) pressure was the difference in the secondhalf. Our reserves did a good job. Enterprise did a good job in thefirst half. We must now get ready for Hinds AHS Friday.”
Powering the Loyd Star boys with 21 points, 4 rebounds, 6 stealsand 5 assists was Ashton Fox. Glenn Thomas fired in 19 points,grabbed 10 rebounds, made 4 steals and had 3 assists. Followingwith 15 points was Julious Whittaker. Joseph Shelby followed with10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists.
“We played hard tonight,” said Enterprise first-year boys coachJohn Knight. “We never gave up. We’ve got to handle their pressurebetter.”
The Enterprise boys (6-6, 1-1) were directed by Kevin Perry’s 20points and 7 rebounds. Pumping in 17 points and collecting 8rebounds was Austin Everett. Jamie Smith finished with 12 pointsand 5 assists.
Loyd Star 55, Enterprise 38
“We did not play good consistently,” said Loyd Star girls coachBilly Vaughn. “Enterprise did very well offensively. They were ableto make some shots. We must do a better job on offense.”
Leading the Lady Hornets with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4blocked shots was senior center Haley Sones. Guard Shannon Chesternetted 11 points, led off the backboards with 15 rebounds, made 5steals and had 9 assists.
“We played a really hard game,” said Enterprise girls coach JillNations. “We have got to make more shots in the fourthquarter.”
The Lady Jackets (2-10, 0-2) got 12 points, 4 rebounds, 4 stealsand 4 assists from Karla Beth Hux. Lacey Orr netted 10 points andpulled down 7 rebounds. Lake Rawls followed with 7 rebounds andmade 2 steals.
Junior varsity action
The Loyd Star girls clipped Enterprise 27-20.
Courtney Watts led the Lady Hornets with 14 points.
For the Lady Jackets, Quadrea Roberson and Sabrina Smith ledwith 6 points each.
The Hornets clipped the Jackets 37-36, powered by Zach Smith’s16 points and Chase Catchings with 14 points. Timothy Brown added 7points.
Enterprise got 17 points from Thomas Allen. Robert Bailey nailed15 points. Nathan Foster scored 4 points.
