Lawrence Co. leads All-Region

Region 6-4A champion Lawrence County leads the 2008 All-Region6-4A Football Team, paced by Most Valuable Player Matthew Wells whosparkled on offense and defense for the Cougars.

It was a banner year for the Cougars and LCHS coach Mike Davis.They went unbeaten (6-0) in region play and posted a 10-2 record,losing to Northeast Jones in the second round of the 4A stateplayoffs.

LCHS senior running back Kendrick Hardy was recognized as theregion’s Best Offensive Player. Sharing Best Defensive Playerhonors were juniors Marcus Brown of Lawrence County and CordaiHenderson of Brookhaven.

Wells, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior, rushed for 1,357 yards and19 touchdowns. He caught 10 passes for 323 yards and 7 touchdowns.On defense, Wells was credited with 42 tackles and 4interceptions.

Hardy (6-1, 215) rushed for 1,762 yards this season, scoring 17touchdowns.

Brown (6-0, 195) accounted for 121 tackles from his linebackerposition. He had 78 solo tackles and 13 tackles for losses, plus 3sacks.

Henderson (5-10, 258) anchored the Panthers as a defensive end.He was credited with 66 tackles, including 42 solo stops.
