Fox directs 16-0 Hornets past Tigers

FLORENCE – Guard Ashton Fox’s game-high 29 points directed theunbeaten Loyd Star Hornets to a 74-60 Division 6-2A win over theMcLaurin Tigers Tuesday night. Fox also collected 5 rebounds, made2 steals and had 4 assists as the Hornets remained unbeaten in 16games.
In the varsity girls game, Haley Sones sparked the Lady Hornetswith 27 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocked shots on theirway to a 61-30 victory over the Lady Tigers.
Loyd Star entertains Bogue Chitto Friday for four games. Thejunior varsity girls begin play at 4 p.m., followed by the JV boysat 5, the varsity girls at 6 and the varsity boys.
Loyd Star 74, McLaurin 60
“We shot the ball well,” said Loyd Star boys coach Gene(Moochie) Britt. “Our defense was good. We need to learn how to bemore patient when we get the lead.”
With the win, Loyd Star improved to 16-0 overall and remain 6-0in the division.
Contributing to the Hornet win with 20 points and 4 steals wasDeAndre Butler. Following with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assistswas Glenn Thomas.
McLaurin was led by Michael Young with 23 points. Ronnie Brownfinished with 13 points.
Loyd Star 61, McLaurin 30
The Lady Hornets, coached by Billy Vaughn, improved to 4-2 inthe division and 14-4 on the season.
Erica Smith pumped in 9 points and made 4 steals for Loyd Star.Shannon Chester finished with 8 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and10 assists.
Pacing the Lady Tigers with 15 points was Ariel Wilson.
Junior varsity boys
McLaurin knocked off Loyd Star 37-20.
Leading the Hornets with 9 points was Zach Smith. Timothy Brownfinished with 8.
Victor Price led McLaurin with 11 points.
