Cobras prevail in 2 OTs

After trailing the West Lincoln Bears 38-23 in the first half,Wesson boys basketball coach Ron Kessler challenged his Cobras athalftime. They responded.
Wesson tied West Lincoln 65-all at the end of regulation andtied the Bears 72-72 in the first overtime before taking an 84-77win in the second OT Friday night. Each overtime had a 4-minutetime limit.
On Tuesday, Wesson visits Madison St. Joseph and West Lincolnentertains Dexter.
A 3-pointer from Cody King tied the game at 65-all with 35seconds left in regulation. The Cobras got the ball back with 8seconds left but missed the shot.
In the first OT, King nailed a big field goal to make it 72-72and force the second overtime.
In the second OT, a pair of back-to-back field goals fromreserve Zach Fetcko and a pair of free throws from Tyler Lumley putWesson up 78-72 with 2:12 left to play. The Bears went cold from3-point range and the free throw line down the stretch.
“West Lincoln shot the lights out in the first half,” saidKessler. “We made some defensive changes at halftime. We chippedaway at them in the third quarter. We started believing inourselves.
“Fetcko was a big contributor coming off the bench,” continuedKessler. “D.J. Coleman got us two big rebounds and Gib Britt madesome big free throws.”
Josh Hood directed the Cobras (13-7, 2-4) with a game-high 24points, 4 steals and 5 assists. Lumley and King fired in 16 pointsapiece. Fetcko netted 13 points and had 4 rebounds. Lumley alsopulled down 7 rebounds followed by Jeromy Smith with 7rebounds.
“In the first half, we played really well,” said West Lincolncoach Lane Young. “In the second half, we got outplayed. Wessonplayed extremely hard and outhustled us in the second half andovertime.”
The Bears (11-9, 4-1) got 15 points and 7 rebounds from BrettRushing. Pumping in 13 points was Aaron Collins. Brandon Robinsonnetted 12 points. Finishing with a double-double was Calvin Keeswith 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremie Richardson finished with 10points and 4 steals.
Junior varsity boys
The Cobras knocked off the Bears 52-37.
Powering Wesson with 20 points, including 4 treys, was HunterHood. Fetcko netted 10 points followed by D.J. Coleman with 9.
West Lincoln got 9 points from De Price. Cartell Porter andLogan King netted 6 points apiece.
