Bogue Chitto girls in big division win; Bears bury Bobcats

BOGUE CHITTO – Bogue Chitto’s Kelli Howard and Darcy Millerfired in 13 points apiece to lead 4 players in double figures ontheir way to a 56-40 come-from-behind win against the West LincolnLady Bears in Division 8-1A basketball action Friday night.

The win clinched the No. 1 seed for the Lady ‘Cats (17-4, 7-1)in the division tournament in 2 weeks if they can win the rest oftheir division games against also-rans Salem, Dexter andResurrection.

The division tournament will be hosted by West Lincoln becauseDexter’s new gymnasium hasn’t been completed.

In the varsity boys game, the Bears defeated the Bobcats 70-54,powered by center Micah Bivens with a game-high 20 points and 6rebounds to lead 5 players in double figures.

Bogue Chitto visits Salem Tuesday and West Lincoln travels toSalem Friday.

Bo’ Chitto 56, W. Lincoln 40

“My girls hustled very hard,” said Bogue Chitto coach ChristiTerrell. “We struggled with free throws in the first half. But inthe fourth, we managed to make our free throws to win.”

In the first half, Bogue Chitto was 8 of 15 from the free throwline but the ‘Cats 12 of 17 in the second half.

The West Lincoln girls (13-10, 7-1) led Bogue Chitto 17-11 atthe quarter. At halftime, the Lady Bears’ lead was cut to 2 points,26-24. West Lincoln carried a 35-33 lead into the fourth quarterwhere Bogue Chitto outscored them 23-5 for the comeback win.

“We looked really tired tonight because of the pressure oftonight’s game,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “Bogue Chittokilled us in the fourth quarter.”

Contributing to the ‘Cats win with 11 points and 6 rebounds wasShelby Tobias. Adrienne Hall finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3steals and 3 assists. Howard also pulled down 8 rebounds and had 2steals.

Guard Tatianna Marshall paced the Lady Bears with 12 points, 3rebounds and 2 assists. Hannah Knouse followed with 8 points and 5rebounds. Netting 7 points was Karli Herrington.

West Lincoln 70, Bo’ Chitto 54

The West Lincoln boys (14-9, 7-1) jumped on the Bobcats in thefirst quarter for a 21-12 lead and never let up. At the half, theBears commanded a 40-21 lead.

“It was a very physical game,” said Young. “We did not protectthe ball. We’ve got to make our free throws. Bogue Chitto hasimproved a lot.”

Jeremie Richardson and Jay Case added support to the WestLincoln win with 12 points apiece. Brett Rushing scored 11 pointsfollowed by Aaron Collins with 10 points. Collins and Richardsongrabbed 5 rebounds apiece.

“We played hard and had a lot of intensity,” said Bogue Chittofirst-year coach Curt Crain. “West Lincoln was able to handle ourpressure. We got in early foul trouble. West Lincoln did what theyhad to do to win.”

The Bobcats (9-12, 5-3) were led by Javier Gee and Colby Johnsonwith 12 points apiece. Fred Tillman and Johnson collected 8rebounds apiece. Grabbing 6 was Byron Kersee.

Junior varsity action

The Bogue Chitto girls knocked off West Lincoln 32-27. Leadingthe ‘Cats with 10 points was Tesheon Rogers with 10 points. TwanquaChatman netted 6 points.

West Lincoln got 11 points from Katie Mullins and 9 fromHerrington.

The West Lincoln boys clipped Bogue Chitto 30-27. Case led theBears with 10 points followed by Calvin Kees with 7.

The Bobcats were paced by Javier Gee’s 11 points. Mike Harrisscored 8.
