House panel OKs school merger plan

JACKSON- The House Appropriations Committee voted Thursday tosend a bill calling for the Mississippi School of the Arts to closein Brookhaven and move to Columbus on to the full House forconsideration.
House Bill 1555, authored by House Education Committee ChairmanCecil Brown, D-Jackson, and House Appropriations Committee ChairmanJohnny Stringer, D-Montrose, passed the committee on a nearunanimous vote.
If approved by the full House, the bill will go to the Senatefor consideration.
