Services for Lester Miller, of Glen Cove, N.Y., are 11 a.m.Saturday, Feb. 7, at Bethel AME Church in Brookhaven with burial inRosehill Cemetery. Byas Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge ofarrangements.
Mr. Miller, 80, died Jan. 31, 2009, in Glen Cove. He was born inBrookhaven on Aug. 3, 1928, to Willie Miller and Gladys MillerWinston.
Mr. Miller was a graduate of Alexander High School and AlcornCollege where he was a member of the class of 1945. He was aretired teacher and coach. He was president of the Glen Cove NAACPfor more than 20 years. He was a member of Kappa Alpha PsiFraternity and the Kiwanis Club and a member of the Fair HousingBoard. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Veterans ofForeign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member Calvary AMEChurch in Glen Cove.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, WillieMiller Jr. and James Conner Miller; and a son, Rico Miller.
Survivors include his sons, Lester Handy, of Anaheim, Calif.,and Monteneze Miller, of Ridgeland; his daughters, Cynthia Miller,of Slidell, La., Stephannie Parrish, of Hazlehurst; and MoniqueAndrews, of Acworth, Ga.; his sisters, Saretha Wilson, of Chicago,Ill., and Rico Miller, of LaPlace, La.; 10 grandchildren; and threegreat-grandchildren.
