Alderman to seek re-election in Ward Six

With just under a month left to go before the qualifyingdeadline for local municipal elections, one more sitting aldermanhas put in his bid for re-election.

Ward Six Alderman David Phillips, an Independent, turned inqualifying papers this week for what may end up a rematch of thespecial election that won him his spot in June.

Phillips faced Democrat Robert Kenny last year when the positionin Ward Six was left vacant following Buddy Allen’s April 15, 2008,resignation. Now the two will lock horns again in the generalelection on June 2.

Ward Two Alderman Terry Bates and Ward Five Alderman D.W.Maxwell still have yet to submit qualifying statements of intentfor any seat in the election.

Mayor: The Rev. Jerry Wilson, D, and Alderman at Large LesBumgarner, I

City Clerk: Mike Jinks, D

Police Chief: Incumbent Arlustra “Pap” Henderson, D

Alderman At Large: L. Ralph Smith, D, Terry Pappas, R, and KarenSullivan, I

Ward One Alderman: Incumbent Dorsey Cameron and Elisa Corley,both Democrats

Ward Two Alderman: Idella Sanders, D

Ward Three Alderman: Incumbent Mary Wilson, D, RooseveltCollins, D, and Brian Moore, R

Ward Four Alderman: Incumbent Shirley Estes, R, Asem Zeini, R,and David Smith, I

Ward Five Alderman: Fletcher Grice, R

Ward Six Alderman: Robert Kenny, D

The qualifying deadline is Friday, March 6, with the primaryelections to take place May 5. The general election will be heldJune 2.
