Arrest made in Gallman shooting

Copiah County officials said Friday morning that an arrest hasbeen made in the shooting death of a Brookhaven man a week ago.

Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said Arther D. Lestrick, 29,was arrested in Jackson Thursday around 11 p.m. on a capital murderwarrant. Jones said he could not release further information on thearrest at this time.

Lestrick is currently being held in the Copiah County Jail.Lestrick, who became a suspect sometime earlier this week, was thesubject of a law enforcement flyer that was circulated locally onThursday.

The man is alleged to have entered the Gallman Stuckey’s lastFriday afternoon and shot Shiva Behal, 18, of Brookhaven in thechest after Behal refused to give him money from the register. Apainter who was in the store at the time was unable to give adetailed description of the suspect, but did overhear theincident.

Behal’s family lives on Virginia Avenue in Brookhaven, and hisfather Mike owns several gas stations in the area. The youngerBehal had been living in an apartment in the back of the Stuckey’s,which his family had just purchased about a month before theshooting.

Officials said Lestrick, whose hometown has not been released,has ties in Monticello, Jackson and Hazlehurst.
