Lady ‘Cats rally past BHS

BOGUE CHITTO — Toy Smith fanned 6 batters and walked 1 to leadthe Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats in a 6-4 varsity fastpitch softball winover the Brookhaven Lady Panthers Friday night.

With the win, the ‘Cats improved to 12-4 overall and remain 4-0in Division 8-1A play. The Panthers fell to 7-10 on the season andremain 4-1 in Division 6-4A action.

Bogue Chitto hosts Cathedral Monday, beginning at 5 p.m. withthe junior varsity and followed by the varsity at 6. Brookhavenentertains Mendenhall Tuesday, starting with the JV at 5 and thevarsity at 6.

It was a big win for us,” said Bogue Chitto head coach ScottLeggett. “Brookhaven is a good ball hitting team. We overcame ourmistakes and made decisions when needed.”

Centerfielder Kelli Howard homered in the first inning and alsosingled for Bogue Chitto. Smith doubled as BC overcame a 3-2deficit.

“The girls played hard,” said Brookhaven head coach Chad Walker.”But Bogue Chitto made the plays when needed.”

Absorbing the loss was Madeline Delaughter who fanned 2 andwalked 2. Brooke Hosick worked in relief with 0 strikeouts and 2walks.

Madeline Delaughter and Kelsey Weeks led Brookhaven with adouble apiece. Casey Rischer singled twice.

Junior varsity action

Kelsey Weeks fanned 6 batters and walked 1 hit sparkingBrookhaven to a 4-2 win over Bogue Chitto in the JV game. Thelosing hurler was Rheagan Welch with 5 strikeouts, 1 walks and 1hit batters. Also seeing action was Mattie Avants with 2 strikeoutsand 1 walk.

Jamie Swinton doubled for Brookhaven.

Alexis Givens singled twice for the ‘Cats.
