Co-Lin sweeps E. Central

DECATUR – The Co-Lin Wolves swept a South Division baseballdoubleheader Tuesday from the East Central Community CollegeWarriors. Co-Lin won the opener 5-3 in 8 innings and the finale8-0.

Co-Lin (16-19, 8-8), coached by Keith Case, returns to SullivanField Friday afternoon to host Hinds in a South Divisiondoubleheader. The first game begins at 1 p.m.

East Central is a tough place to play,” said Co-Lin headbaseball coach Keith Case. “These were big conference wins forus.”

Co-Lin 5, E. Central 3

Co-Lin and East Central were tied 3-all going into the eighthinning.

East Central reliever Eric Dowell started the inning. Co-Lin’sLuke Brumfield reached base on a walk. Lance Gibson took over onthe mound for the Warriors.

Co-Lin’s Tyler Hue hit a sacrifice bunt as Brumfield went tosecond. Bennett Wilson walked. East Central brought in TimothyMaloney on the mound. Cabel McMinn, who was pinch hitting for MasonWarren, reached base on Maloney’s wild throw and Brumfield scoredto put the Wolves up 4-3.

Wilson advanced to third on the wild throw. Jeff DeBlieux buntedand popped out to the infield. Wilson scored on a stolen base topush the Wolves’ lead to 5-3.

With 2 runners on base and 2 out, East Central’s ZeEricka Hallwas struck out by Co-Lin reliever Brock Campbell.

“In the first game, I thought Kendall Logan’s homer (in theseventh ) was big,” explained Case.

“Brock Campbell came in and he gets the ground ball double playto end the inning in seventh.”

Campbell was the winning pitcher in 1.2 innings with 1strikeout, 1 walk and 3 hits allowed. Starter Christian Malbroughworked the first 6.1 innings with 5 strikeouts, 3 walks and 3 runsallowed on 4 hits.

Dowell was the losing hurler. Starter Ernie Triplett worked for5 innings with 8 strikeouts, 4 walks, 1 run allowed on 5 hits.Austin Buchanan worked the next 2 innings, with 1 strikeout, 1 walkand 2 runs allowed on 2 hits.

At the plate, Co-Lin was led by Logan’s homer. Bennett Wilsonsingled twice. Jeff DeBlieux doubled.

Doubling for East Central were Allen Cheek, Daniel Eichelbergerand ZeEricka Hall.

“Joseph Evans pitched a big game,” added Case. “We played gooddefense. We scored really quick. Put the five points on them thefifth. It took the air out of them.”

Evans worked the final 3 innings with 1 strikeout and no walks.Malbrough worked the first 4 innings with 5 strikeouts and 2walks.

DeBlieux singled 3 times to lead the Wolves. Mason Warrensingled twice. Ripping a solo home run in the fourth inning wasCameron Logan.

Steven Barnes absorbed the loss with 5 strikeouts, 2 walks and 8runs allowed on 8 hits in 4.2 innings. Jay Mitchell finished thefinal 2.1 innings with 2 strikeouts and 2 hits allowed.
