DAILY LEADER staff wins AP awards

NEW ORLEANS – Members of the The DAILY LEADER news staffcaptured six awards Friday in the Mississippi-Louisiana AssociatedPress Managing Editors Association newspaper competition.

First place honors went to Staff Writer Therese Apel, who won inthe Spot News Photo category for a picture of an 18-wheeler fire onthe interstate, and to Staff Writer Adam Northam in the BusinessNews Story category. His story was on a chicken pellet processingplant in Monticello.

The DAILY LEADER competed in the Division One category, forMississippi and Louisiana newspapers with circulations under10,000.

Managing Editor Matthew Coleman received two second placeawards. One was in the Best Editorials category and the other wasfor Best Headlines.

Lifestyles Editor Tammie Brewer won a second place award in theBest Features category for a story on Charlotte Adams and herAll-American Redheads basketball career. Sport Editor Tom Goetzalso garnered a second place award for Best Sports Column.
