Colonels slug Lee Colts

GALLMAN – Hunter Renfroe and Russ Singleton slugged first-inninghome runs and the Copiah Academy Colonels crushed Clarksdale LeeAcademy’s Colts 15-0 Tuesday night in the MPSA Class AA StateChampionship series. The game lasted 5 innings Copiah pitcherScotty Reese (6 K, 0 BB) tossed a 4-hitter.

The best-of-three series continues Thursday night when theColonels (29-3) visit Lee (22-9). Game time is 6 p.m. on DeltaState University’s field in Cleveland because Lee’s field is inpoor condition after torrential rain. If a third game is necessary,it will be played Saturday at Copiah.

“We had to refocus for tonight’s game after beating CentralPrivate,” said Copiah coach Scooter Prince, referring to the toughSouth AA title series that went 3 games. “We hit the ball well.Hopefully, we can win up there and make history for Copiah.”

Prince watched his Colonels plate 6, first-inning runs asRenfroe and Singleton slugged homers off starting pitcher TonyAntici.

Renfroe, a junior catcher, also singled twice and doubled inCopiah’s 12-hit attack. Second baseman Mitch Little andcenterfielder Bryce Guess each had 2 hits as the Colonels plated 5,third-inning runs and led 12-zip.

Lee coach Mark Kirk complimented the Colonels. “They beat ourbutts. Copiah was better than us today and they hit the ballwell.

“But we will bounce back and be ready for them Thursday,” hepromised. “We have a good team.”

Antici’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Colts.
