Copiah man hurt in hammer attack

A Crystal Springs man was hit in the face with a hammer during afight over the ownership of a truck Wednesday morning, LincolnCounty officials said.
Alton Nelson, 52, of 123 West Enterprise St., Brookhaven, wascharged with aggravated assault Wednesday after he allegedly used ahammer to attack Raymond Lomax, 44, from Crystal Springs, duringthe dispute, said Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing.
Rushing said the incident occurred at 10:08 a.m. at a residenceat 1927 Heuck’s Retreat Road, where one of the men was working onrenovating a home.
“A disagreement ensued over the vehicle at that location,”Rushing said.
Initial reports from the scene indicated that one of the men maypossibly have used a nail gun, but Lincoln County Sheriff’sDepartment officials said they could not confirm that based ontestimony as of Thursday morning. The incident is still underinvestigation, however, and more information can be released aswitnesses and the victim are interviewed.
Rushing said nobody was hit by anything discharged by a nailgun. He said his investigators had spoken to Nelson, but so farhave not been able to speak to Lomax.
“The victim’s side is still under investigation so we’re waitingfor his statement,” Rushing said Thursday morning. “We’ll bespeaking with both the victim and additional witnesses today.”
Nelson posted bond and was released from the Lincoln County JailWednesday around 5:30 p.m.
Lomax was transported by ambulance to King’s Daughters MedicalCenter, where his condition is unavailable.
