A Tennessee man was killed Monday morning in a one-vehicleaccident in Walthall County, Mississippi Highway Patrol officialssaid.

Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Sgt. Rusty Boyd saidTravis Eric Mixon, 22, of Newport, Tenn., was pronounced dead onthe scene of a one-vehicle accident that occurred in Monday’s earlyhours on Highway 98.

Boyd said Mixon was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima eastbound onHighway 98 when it appears he lost control of the vehicle.

“He ran off the south shoulder and the vehicle struck Mt. OliveRoad and became airborne,” Boyd said. “The vehicle flipped and thedriver was ejected.”

Boyd said Mixon was not wearing a sea tbelt at the time of theaccident, which occurred west of Tylertown at Mesa Mt. Olive Roadat 1:24 a.m.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, Boydsaid.
