Area players picked all-state in baseball

Several area high school baseball players have been named to theMississippi Association of Coaches 2009 All-State Baseball Team invarious classifications.
In Class 4A, Brookhaven is represented by Nick Helmstetter as aFirst Team utility player and senior teammate Bud Britt as a SecondTeam infielder. Lawrence County’s representatives are juniorpitcher Scott Votaw and senior utility player Conner Oakes on thesecond team.
In Class 3A, infielder Justin Badon of North Pike is on theSecond Team.
In Class 2A, Drew Weaver of Loyd Star and Ryan Kennedy ofEnterprise are Second Team pitchers. Wesson is represented on theSecond Team by infielder Matt P. Smith and outfielder ChrisFink.
In Class 1A, senior Brett Rushing of West Lincoln,pitcher/infielder was a First Team selection.
Helmstetter was selected Most Valuable Offensive Player on TheDAILY LEADER’s 2009 All-Lincoln County Baseball Team. He batted.508 this past season and has signed with Meridian CommunityCollege.
Weaver was recognized as Most Valuable Defensive Player on theAll-Lincoln County Team. He has signed with Co-Lin.
Britt, Kennedy and Rushing also have signed with Co-Lin.
MPSA Dream Team
The Mississippi Private School Association has announced itsAll-State Team. Among the honorees are senior catcher Kolby Byrd ofBrookhaven Academy, and senior pitcher Scotty Reese and juniordesignated hitter Hunter Renfroe of Copiah Academy.
Byrd, a Mississippi State signee, was named Most Valuable Playeron The DL’s 2009 All-Lincoln County Baseball Team. Reese wasrecognized as Most Valuable Defensive Player and Renfroe was namedMost Valuable Offensive Player on the DL’s 2009 All-Area Team.Votaw was overall MVP on the All-Area Team.
