Ole Brook wins silver in tourney

The Brookhaven Panthers made a strong showing in the State Gamesof Mississippi Team Baseball Tournament, finishing runner-up toClinton and bringing home silver medals. Ole Brook won 4 tournamentgames on the Mississippi College and Hinds Community College fieldsbefore catching Clinton in the finals and losing 9-4.
“I’m very pleased with our performance in a tournament filledwith high caliber teams,” said Ole Brook coach Randy Spring. “Wegot great pitching and executed well on offense. We showed a lot ofpotential for the 2010 season.”
In Friday night’s opener, BHS beat Choctaw Central 14-0 asDillon Newell pitched the victory. In Saturday’s opener, thePanthers beat Copiah Academy 11-8 as southpaw Brandon Foster tossedthe win. BHS shut out Raymond 12-0, paced by the pitching ofPatrick Valentine.
In Sunday’s opener, BHS stopped Vicksburg 5-1 as Scottie Peaveyhurled the victory. In the title game, J.D. Britt absorbed the lossas Clinton posted the shutout.
This was the second summer tournament for the Panthers who went2-1 in the Clinton Invitational. They defeated Warren Central 9-4and Terry 4-0 before losing 7-0 to reigning Class 5A state championMadison Central.
