Services for Mattie Ella Taylor, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Thursday, July 2, at Hopewell M.B. Church in Brookhaven with burialin Hillcrest Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Wednesday from 1 until 7 p.m. at Williams Mortuarywith family present from 6 until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Taylor, 98, died June 26, 2009, at her residence. She wasborn in Lincoln County on April 24, 1911, to Warren Scarborough andArletha Strauther Scarborough.

She was retired. She was a member of Hopewell M.B. Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, T.C.Taylor; a son, Elzie Taylor; a brother, R.J. Scarborough; adaughter-in-law, Joy Taylor; a son-in-law, Robert Smith; a cousin,Emma Lou Tillman; and a friend, Oscar Black.

Survivors are her sons, Howard Taylor and wife, Rose, of NewYork City, N.Y., and Warren Taylor and wife, Augustine, ofBrookhaven; her daughters, Charlestine Smith, of Los Angeles,Calif., Bernice Powell and Dorothy Walker and husband, Percy, allof Brookhaven; a daughter-in-law, Annie Pearl Taylor, of SpringLake, N.C.; a caregiver and granddaughter, Phyllis Walker, ofBrookhaven; her sisters, Thelma Fleming and Erma Lee Smith, both ofBrookhaven; her 18 other grandchildren; her 28 great-grandchildren;her two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relativesand friends.
