The Lawrence County Lady Cougars shut out the winless BrookhavenLady Panthers 10-0 Tuesday night in slowpitch softball action. OleBrook, in a major rebuilding year, fell to 0-9 on the season.

Brookhaven, coached by Lisa Covington, committed 6 errors toLawrence County’s 1. The Panthers were outhit 14-5 by the Cougarsat the plate.

Brookhaven visits Lawrence County Thursday night for two games.The junior varsity game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsityat 6.

LCHS (5-1), a Division 7-4A member, is the defending divisiochampion and has 3 division foes in North Pike, South Pike andCrystal Springs.

BHS, a Division 6-5A member this year, only has 1 division foein McComb. Both teams automatically qualify for next month’s stateplayoffs.

“We had too many errors and not enough hits,” said Covington.She only has 2 seniors and 1 junior on her young squad.

Christen Benson doubled and singled for the Panthers.

“We worked hard and we kept it simple by getting base hits andnot getting ahead of ourselves,” said Lawrence County head coachCourtney Shivers.

Alli Harris directed the Cougars with a double and 2 singles.Ripping 3 singles was Jessie Alexander. Kristen Sauls and MaryMcLauren each collected a pair of hits.

Junior varsity play

Lawrence County clipped Brookhaven 5-2 in the JV game.

Erika Watts (4Ks, 7BBs) was the winner on the mound and EmilyFreeman (4Ks, 5BBs) took the loss.

Ole Brook got a single from Heather Daw and Britnee Blakely.

Lexie Johnson’s 2 singles directed Lawrence County GeorgieWalker, Rachel Sauls and Jamie Martin hit safely.
