Joseph Carl ‘Joe’ Moak

Services for Joseph Carl “Joe” Moak, of Bogue Chitto, are 11a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapelwith burial in Easthaven Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Moak, 67, died Aug. 31, 2009, at his residence. He was bornon May 30, 1942, to Carl Monroe Moak and Alma Brown Moak.

He was an avid sports fan. He loved football and basketball. Mr.Moak was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl and Alma Moak; andhis father- and mother-in-law, Floyd and Delia King.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Dell King Moak; his sons, JosephMichael “Mike” Moak and Floyd Chadwick “Chad” Moak and wife,Melanie Purvis Moak, all of Bogue Chitto; a daughter, Tracy RenaeMoak and fiancĂ©, Larry W. Strickland, of Dothan, Ala.; his sisters,Dorothy “Dot” Weekly and husband, Gerald, and Gloria May andhusband, Claude, all of Summit; his four grandchildren, Colbey LaneMoak, Alicen Chanie Moak, Saylor LeeAnna Moak and Kayla Ann Moak; anephew, Gene Morgan and wife, Rose Mary, of Bogue Chitto; a niece,Phyllis Smith and husband, Steve, of Pascagoula; and hissisters-in-laws, Rachel Eitel and Bernice King.

Solon Dean Smith

Services for Solon Dean Smith, of Sidon, are noon Thursday,Sept. 3, at Hillview Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday from 11 a.m. until noon at thechurch.

Mr. Smith, 51, died Aug. 31, 2009, at Greenwood LefloreHospital. He was born in Brookhaven on Nov. 14, 1957, to Solon andJohnnie Pearl Smith.

He was a graduate of Cruger Tchula Academy and was a partner ofBig River Sawmill. He was a member of Hillview Baptist Church wherehe taught a Sunday school class.

Preceding him in death were his father; and an infantdaughter.

Survivors are his mother, Johnnie Pearl Smith, of Brookhaven;his wife, Melanie Upchurch Smith, of Sidon; a daughter, Morgan S.Scates and husband, Chase, of Sidon; a sister, JoAnn Adams andhusband, Hershal, of Brookhaven; a granddaughter, Marley ClaireScates, of Sidon; a niece, LeAnn Montgomery and husband, Phillip,of Brookhaven; a great niece, Jaci Lee Montgomery, of Brookhaven; amother-in-law and father-in-law, Annie Sue and Glenn Upchurch, ofSidon; and several other nieces and nephews, all of whom loved himdearly.

Pallbearers will be Keith Langdon, Burt Saucier, Dr. KentPlunkett, Keith Conner, Charles Neal, Johnny Gooch, Kenny Hall andJimmy Harrell.
