Dr. Brandt LaRue Baker Sr.

Services for Dr. Brandt LaRue Baker Sr., of Brookhaven, are 11a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapelin Brookhaven with burial in Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Dr. Baker, 77, died Oct. 5, 2009, at Tulane University MedicalCenter in New Orleans, La. He was born on Dec. 21, 1931, to EdwinOliver Baker and Alice Gabriel Baret Baker.

His childhood home was in the Johnston Station community. Hegraduated from Johnston Station High School and attended SouthwestMississippi Junior College. He continued his education atMississippi State University, where he received his bachelor’s andmaster’s degrees in industrial education. Dr. Baker received hisdoctorate degree in dental surgery from the University of Tennesseein 1960. He practiced dentistry for 35 years in Brookhaven. Dr.Baker was a member of First Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World,Lions Club, the Mississippi Dental Association and the AmericanDental Association. Not only did he serve his country in the U.S.Air Force, he also served his community as a Boy Scouts leader andas a youth boys Sunday school teacher.

Dr. Baker enjoyed traveling with his wife and a close circle offriends. He continued lifelong relations with his many friends andclassmates. In addition to his passion for the practice ofdentistry, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking andcooking. His life’s happiness and fulfillment was found in hisendless love for and dedication to his family as a husband, father,grandfather and great-grandfather.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Frances AnnReeves Baker; his brothers, Ed Baker and LeVeq Baker; and a sister,Dolores Barnett.

Survivors are his sons, LaRue Baker and wife, Sue Martin Bakerand Mac L. Baker and wife, Amy Batson Baker, all of Brookhaven; adaughter, Ann Baker Sparks and husband, Darryl, of Memphis, Tenn.;his brothers, King Baker and wife, Martha, of Summit, and Dal Bakerand wife, Polly, of Jena, La.; a sister, Alice Soileau and husband,Joe, of Jena; a brother-in-law, Delbert Barnett; a sister-in-law,Marjorie Baker, of Brookhaven; his three grandchildren, BrandiBaker Day and husband, Ryan, of Brookhaven, Brandon Baker and wife,Katie Rogers Baker, of Oxford, and Jake Baker, of Brookhaven; histhree great-grandchildren, Brant, Roland and Laren Day; and hislifelong friend and housekeeper, Sadie Mae Dickey.
