Lady Wolves bash Delta on boards

WESSON – Shareka Hunt served as Chairman of the Boards Mondaynight in Mullen Gymnasium. The 5-foot-9 sophomore from Meadvillepulled down 15 rebounds in sparking the unbeaten Co-Lin Lady Wolvesto a 78-57 triumph over the Mississippi Delta Community CollegeLady Trojans.
Co-Lin (4-0), ranked No. 4 in the national NJCAA poll, resumesplay Nov. 16 at Holmes Community College in Goodman.
Hunt is one of three starters returning from last season’sCo-Lin team that finished runner-up in the state and regionaltournaments. Her expertise on the backboards is critical to theteam’s success.
As a team, Co-Lin outrebounded Delta 45-28.
“Shareka rebounded the ball real well for us,” said Co-Linwomen’s coach Gwyn Young. “Overall, our defense wasn’t what it hasbeen. We led Delta drive by us much of the time.
“We have to play better and get more consistent.”
Sophomore guard Rachel Vigers led Co-Lin with 16 points.Freshman post Brandi Simmons netted 15 points and 8 rebounds.Freshman guard Nadia Collins came off the bench and sacked 14points, netting 2 of 3 treys.
“Our freshmen can help us,” said Hunt. “We play team ball and wecommunicate pretty good.”
Co-Lin increased a 30-26 halftime lead to 9 points, 50-41, with9:47 left to play on a driving layup by Latoria Holder. Collinsconnected on Co-Lin’s first trey of the game and it was 53-41.
Delta (1-2), coached by Burnadette McDonald, got 11 points fromBritney Lakes, a 5-10 freshman from Drew. Ashley Love, a 5-9freshman from Benoit, grabbed 8 rebounds.
