12-0 BA hosts Centreville

The unbeaten Brookhaven Academy Cougars host the CentrevilleAcademy Tigers Friday night at R.M. “Red” Stuard Field in thesecond round of the MAIS Class AA state football playoffs. The gamebegins at 7 p.m.
Brookhaven Academy (12-0) eliminated Silliman Institute (La.),34-14 last week. Centreville Academy (9-3) escaped Glenbrook (La.)46-38.
Brookhaven Academy head football coach Herbert Davis has studiedfilm on the Tigers and passed on this report.
“Centreville Academy is going to run right over the top of you,”said Davis. “They have one of the best tailbacks in the state, ZachSinclair (5-9, 170). He is fast. He is just relentless. He doesn’twant to go down. He plays with a great heart.”
In Centreville’s win over Glenbrook, Sinclair rushed for 6touchdowns and scored two 2-point conversions.
“Centreville plays a four-man front on defense,” continuedDavis. “They are the most physical team in the south. We have tomatch their physicalness with our mental toughness.
“They are two-time defending state champions. They know how towin. They are going to come in knowing what to do. They have thatexperience.”
Davis said his Cougars started slow last week but he expectsthem to be back to their old selves Friday night.
“We were a little hesitant last week,” added Davis. “That’splayoff inexperience. Hopefully we will play the kind of game weare capable of playing.”
Starting on offense for the Cougars at quarterback is ChandlerRogers. Wide receivers are Tripp Jolly and Christian Keene. Otherreceivers are Donovan Lorraine, Will Lucas and Jennings Mills inthe back field.
On the line, the left tackle is Alan Michael Allred, the leftguard is Clint Stewart, the center is Hunter Franklin, the guard isWill Gatlin and the right tackle is Cameron Barry.
The starting BA defense includes Bailey Hodge and Gatlin at end,Clint Stewart and Prentiss Smith at tackle, Jamison Powell,Lorraine and Allred at linebacker, Jeff and Mark Rushing at safetyand Keene and Mills at corner. Tyler Trout is the kicker.
In the win over Sillman Institute, Brookhaven Academy wasdirected by Rogers who completed 11 of 17 passes for 236 yards and2 touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed 13 times for 95 yards.
Leading the Cougar receivers with 6 catches for 92 yards and atouchdown was Jolly. Keene caught 2 passes for 85 yards and aTD.
The Brookhaven Academy defense was led by Powell with 16tackles. Hodge and Mark Rushing had 11 tackles apiece.
