Southeastern Iowa takes 2 from Co-Lin Wolves

WESSON – Looking for a victory Saturday, the Co-Lin Wolfpackinstead lost a doubleheader to Southeastern Iowa in SullivanStadium. The Blackhawks won the opener 3-2 and escaped with a 10-8victory in the nightcap.

Co-Lin (1-5), riding a 4-game losing streak, hosts MississippiDelta for a Tuesday twinbill, starting at 1 p.m.

“We are close to being a pretty good ballclub,” said Co-Lin headcoach Keith Case. “We are four plays away from being 5-1 instead of1-5. We need some more players to step up.”

The Blackhawks (2-2) lost a pair of 1-run decisions to Hinds Fridaybut rebounded to win their first games of the young season.

“Southeastern has a real good team,” said Case. “They have seveninternational players: Venezuela, Ecuador, France, Canada, andthree from Australia. They also have four players from PuertoRico.”

Case said SEI shortstop Yhoxian Medina of Venezuela was ahigh-level Major League Baseball prospect. “He’s the best I’ve seenat that position in a long, long time.”

SE Iowa 3, Co-Lin 2

Co-Lin sophomore pitcher Jeff DeBlieux (3 K, 5 BB) started theopener and gave up 2 hits and 2 runs in 4 innings. In 3 innings ofrelief, Preston Edwards (3 K, 1 BB) held the Blackhawks hitless,allowing one unearned run.

The Blackhawks scored 2 runs in fourth on a 2-out single by thirdbaseman Wade McConnom, an Australian product.

Co-Lin shortstop Luke Brumfield collected 3 hits in the loss.

SEI 10, Co-Lin 8

First baseman Cable McMinn led off the third inning with a solohomer for Co-Lin. Leftfielder Chris Fink collected 2 hits, 2 stolenbases and scored a run for the Wolves. He also had a sacrificebunt.

Matthew Freeman collected 2 hits for the Wolves. Edmund Cheathamand Jesse Shows doubled.

Marshun Hall started on the mound for Co-Lin and went 1.2 innings.He gave up four earned runs, walking five.

In relief, Drew Weaver (1 K, 1 BB) went three frames and took theloss, giving up 4 runs and 4 hits. Andrew Lee (2 K, 0 BB) went 2.1innings in relief. Lee allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run.

Ryan Kaczmarski had 2 hits fro SEI and Adam Gendall tripled.
