Brookhaven rallies to beat North Pike
The host Brookhaven Panthers came back to beat the North PikeJaguars 5-3 Thursday night in the Southwest Mississippi BaseballClassic at Moyer Field.
North Pike (0-1) took a 3-2 lead over Brookhaven (2-1) in thefirst inning. The Panthers went ahead 4-3 after scoring a pair ofruns in the bottom of the fourth. Ole Brook added another run inthe fifth for the 5-3 win.
Brandon Foster was the winner in relief with 3 strikeouts and 2walks. Starter Scottie Peavey fanned 3 and walked 5 in the start.Absorbing the loss was Kendrick Hodges with 3 strikeouts. StarterArin Ryan fanned 1 batter and walked 1.
“We started off slow,” said Brookhaven head baseball coach RandySpring. “We battled back. Our pitchers and defense kept us in thegame to comeback. My guys played hard and made the plays to win thegame.”
E.J. Henderson powered the Panthers with a pair of singles.Hitting safely were Gabe Wilson, Brice Huckaby, Dillon Newell, J.D.Britt, Foster and Peavey.
“We just did not hit,” said North Pike head coach George Lott.”We made a couple of errors at the end in which Brookhaven tookadvantage of.”
Justin Badon singled the Jags’ only hit.
