Enterprise girls hang big loss on Brookhaven

Leftfielder Sarah Burke smashed a home run and two singlesFriday night to lead the host Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets in a21-6 win against the Brookhaven Lady Panthers in fastpitch softballaction.

The Jackets improve to 2-0 on the season and the Panthers fallto 0-2.

Enterprise hosts Lawrence County Monday, starting with a varsitygame at 4 p.m. The Lady Panthers are at Franklin County.

“Our kids are playing well,” said Enterprise coach Steve Sasser.”Our speed is a key for us this year. We hit the ball well tonight.We are glad to play tough opponents to help us in district.”

Freshman Taylor Nelson was the winning pitcher with 3 strikeoutsand 1 walk. Brooke Hosick walked 7 batters and had nostrikeouts.

“We showed improvement from the other night,” said Brookhavenhead coach Chad Walker, referring to his team’s lopsided loss toFranklin County. “We hit the ball. But again, mistakes arecostly.”

The Panther committed four errors to the Jackets three.

Contributing to the Enterprise win with two singles each wereHaley Brazell, Karla Beth Hux, Tori Ryall and Nelson.

Freshman catcher Christen Benson tripled for Brookhaven. EricaBridwell singled twice.

Junior varsity action

Brookhaven knocked off Enterprise 12-5 in the JV game.

Hannah Moak paced the Jackets with a double and a single.Singling twice were Ashley Boyd and Addie Spring.

Pacing the Panthers with a single were Dana Herring and CourtneyTownsend.
