Franklin girls stay perfect for season

MEADVILLE – Led by three strikeouts from junior pitcher DestinyDeDeaux, the Franklin High Lady Softball Dawgs improved to aperfect 6-0 mark on the season with a clutch 6-4 victory over 6Apower Oak Grove.
FCHS plays host to Ole Brook tonight at 6:30. The Lady Dawgsfinished the FC Classic Softball Tournament with 3-0 record.
“That was a really good game,” said FC head coach Dana Smith abouttheir contest with Oak Grove. “We beat a very good team.”
Down 3-0 early, the Lady Dawgs used a combination of big hits fromKatie Forman, Desiree Buie, and Kacey Smith to score five runs inthe fourth. Smith, a Co-Lin softball signee ripped a triple tostart off the inning.
DeDeaux, the Lady Dawgs junior hurler pitched a solid game to keepOak Grove at bay. Kelly Lewis led the visitors attack with twosingles and a double for an RBI.
For FCHS, Smith led the Lady Dawgs with a triple and a single foran RBI. Buie and Kenyatta Hunt each had a double. Forman added twosingles.
“We’ve got some big games ahead,” said Smith, whose team will playin the Alexandria, La. Tournament of Grace Spring Break tournamentnext week. “We have to stay focused.”
Franklin County (6-0) was powered by eight hits total in the game,compared to seven by Oak Grove. FCHS has beaten two Class 6Aschools this season in Vicksburg and Oak Grove.
