Jimmie Lois Massey, of Jackson, 84, died March 7, 2010, inDownsville, La. Arrangements include a visitation from 10 until 11a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, at Wright and Ferguson’s ParkwayFuneral Home in Jackson, with a private funeral service followingher visitation.
Having chosen education as her career, she taught and retired fromthe Jackson Public Schools. She was a graduate of Millsaps Collegeand was awarded her master’s degree from Mississippi College.
Achieving excellence with integrity and passion was always her goalin everything that she did. This was evident in her teaching aswell as in her retirement. She became an avid golfer after herretirement and was awarded the championship title of the MunicipalLadies Golf Association. This was only one of the many recognitionsshe received as a golfer in Mississippi and in the South.
An active member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years,she was a longtime devoted member of the Hope and Joy Sunday SchoolClass.
Her memberships and former memberships include the ContinentalLuncheon Club, Knife and Fork Club, the Senior Golf Association,Ladies 18 Hole Golf Club at the Colonial Country Club, and severalbridge clubs.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, JesseDavid Massey; her mother, Lois Irby Stanley; and a sister,Catherine Stanley Clanton.
Survivors are her children, Cathy Pace Jackson (Robert), ofDownsville, Jeff Davis Pace Jr. (Lilann), of Brookhaven; hersisters Lydumah Ratliff (Ray) and Betty Jacobs, of Jackson; hergrandchildren Justin Gordon, of Pearl, Houston Gordon, ofMandeville, La., Davis Pace and Jesse Pace, of Brandon. She is alsosurvived by three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces andnephews.
