Wesson Cobras hand St. Joe region setback

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras handed the Madison St. Joseph Bruinsa 5-3 loss in the first Region 6-2A test for both teams Tuesdaynight in varsity baseball action. Senior right-hander Caleb Broome(3-1) tossed a 4-hitter and notched the victory. He had 6strikeouts, 5 walks.

Wesson (5-4, 1-0) visits St. Joe (4-5, 0-1) Friday for a varsitydoubleheader, beginning at 5 p.m. St. Joe is coached by MillerTodd.

“I like (Caleb) Broome’s determination,” said Wesson head coachHugh Knight after the win. “He wasn’t really sharp. He was abulldog tonight.”

Absorbing the loss in the 7-inning contest was Peyton Willoughby(3-1) with 5 strikeouts, 5 walks and 7 hits allowed.

The Bruins took an early 1-0 lead but the Cobras answered with 2runs in the bottom of the first for a 2-1 lead. Wesson added a runin the second, third and fourth inning to push its lead to5-1.

“We wanted to win the first conference game,” added Knight. “It wasa good victory.”

Powering the Cobras with 2 singles each were Matt Smith and PaxtonCupit. Gage Wilson, Jacob Fischer and Tyson Wesley singled.

St. Joe’s Greg Warlock ripped an RBI triple. Matt Singler, JeffreyRucker and Willoughby hit safely.

Junior varsity action

Wesson crushed St. Joe 15-1 in the JV game. The Cobras improved to3-1 in JV play.
